Face study
done in about 2hrs.
Both are the same face and I didn't like the first one at all so I did something I never do - redid it right away.

Speed Paint
I joined a group on Facebook a few weeks ago and started submitting there to get more practice in.
The idea of the group is a speed paint in exactly 30 minutes (or less) with subjects they provide.
Good way to get the brain going and very awesome practice.
Here is one from today for 'The Forge'

Passage to the North - Matte painting WIP
A work in progress. The image part of the matte is pretty much finalized (a few tweaks here and there as I go). Jumping ahead to the CG models of the towers.

Back in a simpler time - final
Finally able to put this away for the time being. I can work on it forever, adding more and tweaking little things but I'm not going too. I'll revisit it later this year when I need to render a bit for my demo reel.
Here is the final render with a bit of post done to it.
Here are a few images as I went along. If you want to see WIP renders, check out my older blog posts.
I began by blocking out what I wanted and where I wanted it. The camera position was pretty much in place right from the get go. The scale of the room did change later on.
Modelling begins and things were moved around.
More modelling and details being pumped out.
Most of the bulk objects are modelled and detailed and the lights are then placed in.
It's a small classroom (12 kids max) but I think it works. Texturing starts. Custom name plates were textured for each spot.
Smaller details are modelled and textured as I go until it was finally finished.

Back in a simpler time - WIP progress
More update.
Biggest things remaining are the books throughout the room. Then a few little tweaks and fixes and should be able to finally shelf this.

Epic Pet Video
Bought myself a GoPro on the weekend and put this together with the test footage.
Side note : yes I know it's all washed out and looks like crap. won't make the same mistake again!

Back in a simpler time - Very (very) early Lighting tests
Nothing special today. Spent about an hour cleaning up the scene and getting my feet wet with some lighting / render testing.

Back in a simpler time - WIP
Slowly came back to this kindergarten room from over a month ago. Started off as a simple speedy and now I find myself coming back to it every night. I'm thinking I'll be able to start cleaning up the scene file and then laying out UVs to texture on the weekend.
Goal for this year is to do more 3d, draw more and once I get a hold of my GoPro, film more.

GoPro Hero3 tests
Ran some tests with the GoPro Hero3. First time I've used one myself so it was pretty cool finally getting a hands on experience with it. Here are the details on each clip:
1. Time lapse - 1fps / 5 sec
2. Pro tune - 60fps
3. 4k - 15fps
4. 120fps @ 720 (scaled to 200% in AE)

Pillars of Earth matte painting
Happy 2013! Went out to my Aunt and Uncles acreage for a family gathering and Greek food goodness today and snapped this photo real quick with my phone. There were a few other shots I wanted to grab but I was already driving away and wasn't able to stop.
Kept it simple and to the point. Might revisit it down the road to fill the emptiness on frame left, but we'll see.
